Our Lockdown Project

The theory behind our thinking…

The global pandemic caused by Covid-19 had a huge impact on our children & families.  They lost the support of their friends and key workers and their daily routine.  This resulted in changes & challenges which our children and families had to come to terms with.

In recognition of this and as a result of the Scottish Government’s guidance for schools and nurseries we looked at ways we could support and welcome back our children.

In our aims to reconnect and ease transitions we hope that this space will serve as a half-way place where parents and carers can ease their children back into the nursery building in a gentle and soothing environment with lots to spark interest and become engaged with.

How Tall Are You Today?

We have included a beautiful Sunflower in our mural where children can measure their height – this adds a fun interactive element to the foyer area.

Yokerburn brings the outdoors indoors

Welcome to our indoor-outdoor space in Yokerburn Nursery. We have created an inviting and welcoming environment for our children & families in our entrance foyer.

The environment we have created here is as a direct result of the global pandemic and lockdown to which we all, especially our children, have had to adjust to.

The Yokerburn Family Tree

The tree in the far corner is a large oak from Glasgow’s coat of arms.

As the motto goes, St Mungo’s tree never grew however our family tree at Yokerburn is continuously growing.  Families come from near and far to become part of our Yokerburn family.  We have families whose roots reach around the globe who become Glaswegians and make our family all the stronger for it.

Family is hugely important to all which is why the word for family is depicted here in all the languages spoken by members of our Yokerburn family.

Engraved on our tree is Yokerburn’s Vision Statement, which will continue to evolve for the challenges yet to come.
